On this occasion, Proinserga, together with Aviporc, wants to present its new farm, two sheds – one for weaning and the other for fattening – which have managed to stand out thanks to their revolutionary approach and state-of-the-art equipment.

This farm, with a capacity of 1,000 places for weaning and 2,000 for fattening, stands out for its exceptional performance, redefining the standards of efficiency in pig production.

Question: WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF FUENSANTA? WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF PULLET REARING AVIARY FARM?

Answer. SAT FUENSANTA was founded 40 years ago by Luis Arribas and Elvira Navarro. Our first farm was in Peñafiel. Over the years we made new investments and started up new farms and facilities. At the moment we have 4 rearing nuclei, Peñafiel (Valladolid) and La Aguilera (Burgos) for rearing in cages and Solarana (Burgos) and Cogollos (Burgos) for rearing in aviaries.

Since its foundation, more than 80 million pullets have been reared in our 4 facilities. All the farms are owned by the Arribas Navarro family. In 2021 we started up the Cogollos nucleus with an aviary rearing capacity of 140,000 places.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THE PULLET REARING AVIARY FARM, ALSO KNOWN AS “NIVOVARIA”?

We currently have most of our layer rearing places for producing caged hen eggs, because this is still the most important production system. Moreover, we have been analysing the different types of rearing in aviaries for several years and, although they all meet rearing standards. Also, we felt that at this time it was better to lose some of the capacity offered by other rearing systems. At the finally, we opt for a system such as Jansen’s NIVOVARIA because it allowed us to train the pullet well from the first day of life and leave it ready to be a good layer.

WHAT BENEFITS WOULD YOU HIGHLIGHT FROM THE USE OF THIS REARING SYSTEM?

R. A system like Jansen’s NIVOVARIA makes it possible to train the pullet better from the first day of life. This teach it to fly and to get it used to jumping on the hanging platforms, to reach the feeders and drinkers.

EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE IN YOUR FIRST BREEDING, WHAT RESULTS ARE YOU NOTICING?

In summary, the results are better than expected. We have detected the most complicated points in the rearing process. We have taken the necessary corrective measures to achieve optimum results. What we have noticed is that the pullets are getting into the system very well for laying and feeding.

ADVANTAGES OF REARING PULLETS AVIARY FARM: “NIVOVARIA”

• Train the chicks to move between different platforms and levels and in the aviary laying system.
• Easy handling compared to other aviary rearing systems.
• The entire system is equipped with plastic slats specially designed for rearing. The slats provide adequate support for the pullets’ feet.
• After each flock, the slat can be folded up, which makes it easier to clean the inside of the system.
• The drinker next to the feeder gives the chicks easy access to water during the first days.
