Today we’re going to show you a new Aviporc product to improve environmental management in pig facilities: Floating Cover Project.
This product was created to improve an existing problem in pig farms, such as:
- Odour emission
- High slurry collection, transport or treatment costs
- Pollution (animals, leaves, sediments, etc.)
- Accidents of working personnel (possible drowning)
The main objective we want to achieve is the reduction of emissions.
CURRENT LEGISLATION ON THE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT OF SLURRY
Royal Decree 306/2020. Articles 9 and 10.
COMMISSION IMPLEMENTING DECISION (EU) 2017/302 of 15 February 2017 sets out the conclusions on Best Available Techniques (BAT) under Directive 2010/75/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards the intensive rearing of poultry or pigs
DIRECTIVE 2010/75/EU OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 24 November 2010 on industrial emissions (integrated pollution prevention and control).
Royal Legislative Decree 1/2016, of 16 December, which approves the revised text of the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Act. BAT 16 Slurry storage.
WHAT ARE COVERS FOR SLURRY PONDS?
Floating covers are so called. They can rest directly on the stored water, adapting to the fluctuations of the water level in the basin.
The floating roof technology designed and installed by our company has led us to make a selection of the best materials and most suitable designs, in order to guarantee our customers a durable and efficient installation.
ADVANTAGES
- Eliminates evaporation or emission of odours
- Slurry reduction by river water control
- Can be installed with the raft full or empty
- Adaptable to any type of raft
- Minimal civil works required
- Minimal maintenance
- Reduces ageing of the waterproofing
- Wind, hail and snow do not constitute a risk
- Good integration into the environment
DESIGN OF FLOATING COVER FOR SLURRY POND
What should we take into account?
In order to place a floating cover on our slurry pond we have to take into account the geometry of the pond, concepts such as depth, dimensions and slope.
In addition, we also have to take into account weather-related loads such as snow, hail and wind.
Problematic
Unwanted tensions, wrinkles and creases may remain on the cover. Material weakness and breakage of the material may also occur.
Solutions to the above problems
To solve these problems, the use of model elements and correct design of folding lines is important. Also the use of the most suitable materials for this type of installation is important.
